‘Duck Dynasty’ Star: Time To ‘Vote This Ungodly Bunch Out Of Washington’

CULLMAN, Ala. (CBS Atlanta/AP) — “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson is looking for new leadership in Washington.

During his appearance at the “Rock the South” music festival in Cullman, the reality television star stated it’s time to vote those “ungodly” politicians out of Congress.

“Whatever you do, go register to vote, especially on this next presidential election. Register to vote and you ought to register for the House and the Senate, too. Get your tail down there and vote this ungodly bunch out of Washington, D.C.,” Robertson told the crowd while getting a raucous ovation.

Robertson also delved into his controversial comments he made about homosexuality in a GQ interview last December.

“I’m actually a nice man,” Robertson told the crowd. “I’m trying to help those poor souls and turn them to Jesus.

Robertson was suspended from the A&E reality show for several days after saying homosexuality is “illogical.”

“It seems like, to me, a vagina – as a man – would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me,” Robertson told GQ. “I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

Robertson’s political comments come as his nephew is running for the Louisiana congressional seat held by Vance McAllister, who was elected with the TV family’s support and later was wrapped up in scandal when videosurfaced showing him kissing a married staffer.

Zach Dasher, a 36-year-old Republican who never has run for office, said in a statement Monday announcing his candidacy for the Nov. 4 election that he opposed the federal health overhaul and abortion and supports a constitutional amendment requiring that Congress balance the budget.

“I got to looking around at the problems in politics today, and what I see in Washington, D.C., is no God. There is no God. The elite political class thinks they can be running our lives,” he said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I think there’s a vacuum in D.C. of people who understand where rights come from. Rights don’t come from men. They come from God.”

McAllister initially said he would not seek re-election after the security video became public in April, but he’s been less definitive recently, saying he’ll make a decision by the August candidate sign-up period.

Dasher said his decision wasn’t influenced by what happened with McAllister. He said he met with his extended family, including the stars of the A&E show, at cousin Al Robertson’s home to discuss the congressional race. Dasher’s mom is the sister of Phil and Silas “Uncle Si” Robertson.
